TMJ Therapy in North Haven, CT

TMJ & jaw tension · North Haven, CT

TMJ and jaw pain treated like the muscle problem it is.

Morning jaw soreness, clicking when you open, headaches at the temples, a jaw that tires while you eat — most of that is muscular, and muscle is what we treat.

Jaw sessions here are slow and precise: masseter and temporalis work, sub-occipital release at the base of the skull, SCM and scalene work, and upper-thoracic opening — because a jaw sitting on a locked-up neck keeps re-loading.

What we do exceptionally well

Why jaw work here is different.

Almost nobody treats the jaw as part of the neck. That's exactly why so many TMJ cases stall.

Jaw and neck together, always

Masseter, temporalis, sub-occipitals, SCM and scalenes — the whole referral network in one session.

Slow, comfortable, precise

Jaw tissue doesn't need force. It needs skill and patience, and a therapist who isn't rushing.

Licensed clinical therapists

Connecticut-licensed, trained in clinical bodywork, one client at a time.

Headache relief comes with it

Temporalis and upper trap referral patterns are why so many 'tension headaches' resolve when the jaw is treated.

Inside your session

What's in your TMJ session.

Every jaw session is customized to your pattern and comfort level.

Masseter & Temporalis Work

Direct extraoral treatment of the two muscles responsible for most jaw pain and temple headaches.

Sub-Occipital Release

Base-of-skull work that changes resting jaw posture immediately for most people.

SCM & Scalene Therapy

Neck muscles whose referral patterns mimic jaw and facial pain.

Myofascial Release

Through the front of the neck, upper chest and upper thoracic spine.

Infrared Heat

Makes chronically clenched chewing muscles far more receptive before hands-on work.

PEMF Therapy

Nervous-system downregulation — clenching is a stress output as much as a mechanical one.

Triple Max Red Light

Clinical panel for local tissue and pain modulation.

Assisted Neck Mobility

Gentle range work to unwind the forward-head posture feeding the jaw.

Questions we hear a lot

Answers before you book.

Can massage help TMJ clicking?

It can reduce the muscular contribution — particularly the deep jaw muscle tension associated with deviation and clicking. Structural disc issues inside the joint need dental or medical evaluation, and we'll say so if that's what we suspect.

Do you work inside the mouth?

We'll discuss it during your session. Many jaw cases improve substantially with extraoral work on the masseter, temporalis and neck alone.

I grind my teeth at night. Will this help?

Yes — treating the overloaded muscles reduces morning soreness and headaches. A properly fitted night guard from your dentist protects your teeth while we address the muscular side.

Are my headaches related to my jaw?

Very often. Temporalis and upper trapezius both refer into the temple and behind the eye, which is why jaw and neck work resolves a lot of 'tension headaches.'

Is it painful?

No. Jaw work is slow and comfortable — force is counterproductive here, and we work at your pace.

Do you take HSA/FSA?

Yes, and superbills are available for out-of-network reimbursement.
